I'm Dara, a ceramicist and UX designer who combined my two loves; craft and functionality. Working from a cozy home studio, I tinker and experiment to tell stories through clay. Currently based in Singapore.
From pixel pushing to shaping clAY
My clay journey started in Neukolln, Berlin, 2017. Having moved to a new country alone with no social commitments, I picked up pottery and it was love at first Patrick Swayze. (j/k).
As an experience designer by day, to hone a craft off-screen was the balance I never knew I needed.
Pottery has since taught me life’s biggest lessons. It was a safe space for me to recharge and create without mind-clutter. I even had to transition from a knuckle-pull to a finger pull as I absorbed skills from the teachers and people who have guided me along the way.
The essence of Kapuuut
Kapuuut (pronounced /kəˈpʊt/) stems from the german word ’Kaputt’ which describes something broken. But here, we embrace and celebrate imperfections as a mark of character. There are infinite lives for everything.
Kapuuut wares always have a story to tell while exploring ornamental & cross-cultural aesthetics.
Experimenting with new techniques is part of the curiosity, which explains why Kapuuut creations extend beyond tableware to home decor pieces.
